The Rolling Acres School's elementary religion curriculum is formally recognized as Catholic by the Most Reverend Bishop John M. LeVoir of the Diocese of New Ulm.  In the Academy, the instructors, are Catholics, in good standing, and Roman in rite.  We teach in the hope of bringing our students to Christ and contributing to the establishment of a clear Catholic cultural identity among the youth of our time.  By grace, we take this to mean, first and foremost, that we show how all things must be understood as they relate to and reveal the person of Christ.  This goal is attainable only when we remain cogent of several key elements, among them: the interrelation of spiritual, moral, and intellectual development; the importance of historical context for a proper understanding of anything; the necessity of focusing upon real things, rather than theoretical commitments to achieve wisdom, and the humility to recognize the mystery of it all.  In addition, we defend the Catholic philosophical tradition as unique and superior to the alternatives in its understanding of man and its capacity to answer the fundamental and perennial questions.  At a practical level, there are many ways in which education can be approached.  We think that though there are definite limitations to them, the new media present unique opportunities that are fully in keeping with the essential thesis of Catholicity.  Finally, we publicly confess our intention to submit to the guidance of the teaching magisterium of the Catholic Church.

Religion: Integrated in Curriculum

In all courses, we seek wisdom by teaching truth and refuting falsehood. The goal is twofold: knowledge of each thing in itself and knowledge of how each thing reflects and participates in the divine. Thus all of our courses are, in some sense, religious, since they aim at knowing truth in the person of the risen Christ. In our Trivium Studies and Latin courses we come to know truth through human reason. Latin also presents revealed truth through its memorization, recitation, and readings. Our Traditio Nostra classes, following the historic cycle, deal with truth attainable by human reason and truth divinely revealed, and, in toto, are an honest presentation of Catholic philosophy and theology.

spiritual formation
The Spiritual Formation Program

provides all students with guided reflections based upon the writings of St. Francis de Sales and Thomas à Kempis. The goal of the reflections is to lead the students to drink from the river of God, growing in knowledge of Him through meditation and imitation. We want students to realize that their relationship with Christ is most important and that they must sit at his feet daily. We firmly hold that intellectual development is connected with spiritual development.

Theology

The culmination of philosophical studies is the study of theology. After students have learned the tools of learning by studying the trivium—grammar, logic, and rhetoric—, they have prepared themselves to undertake the highest order of study, theology. Our theology courses are available to high school students in two courses concerning natural and revealed theology.
